RULES FOR PARTICIPATION

  1. As part of the Fourth Stone Carving Festival the "José María Delgado" Foundation  will undertake the realization of a Sculpture and Stone Carving Symposium.
  2. The event, including opening and closing ceremonies, will be held between 08:00 hours of September 2, 1998 and 21:00 hours of  September 12, 1998.
  3. The entry forms included with this set of rules must be completely filled out by aspiring participants  and received by June 2, 1998 in order to be taken into account for participation.
  4. The central theme of the Fourth Festival will we water. This element must pass through each and every stone carving or sculpture to be executed.
  5. Aspiring participants must present their proposais for the works of art to be produced in the event. The projects must include sketches and / or photographs of a scale model for information of the selection committee. The committee will select the 20 projects that will participate in the symposium.
  6. The Foundation will provide food and lodging for participants that do not reside in Barichara, from 18:00 hours of the day prior to the start of the event until 10:00 hours of the day after finalization. Any accompanying persons must pay the full amount of room and board upon arrival.
  7. For Barichara residents daily lunch will be provided. The organization will cover the cost of  food and lodging of participants only.
  8. Each of the 20 participants that complete their work, will be paid $1.000.000.oo (One Million Colombian Pesos) as the purchase price of the work of art executed during the event. All the works of art will become property of the "José María Delgado" Foundation. All left over material and / or works produced with this material will also be property of the Foundation.
  9. The Festival will award first, second and third prizes to the three most outstanding works of art. The judges will reserve the right to award honorable mentions to other works of art considered outstanding. All participants who complete their work, will receive certificates of participation.
  10. There will be three judges designated by the organization. All judges must vote and their final decisions, which  are not subject to appeal, will be summarized in a document that will be read at the closing ceremony.
  11. The organization will provide each selected participant with a block of sandstone measuring approximately 1.00 x .50 x .50 Mts. for their work of art. The participants must utilize the material provided to the maximum. Participants that so desire, may request a block of stone of a different size. These requests will be taken into account depending on the quality of the proposal.
  12. The work to be executed must meet the following conditions:
        a. Be an original sculpture or stone carving that has not been crafted previously.
        b. Be produced with the material provided by the Foundation.
        c. Be executed entirely by the participant with no assistants.
  13. Aspiring participants must indicate int the entry forms if they require electricity and / or compressed air. These will be provided by the organization. Participants must bring their own tools. The Festival will provide a secure place to deposit tools at the end of the work day.
  14. Work stations will be assigned by a draw to be held the day prior to starting the event.
    The participant must work in that space only.
  15. The symposium will take place regardless of weather conditions. Daily working hours will be from 08:00 hours to 12:00 hours and 14:00 to 18:00 hours including Saturday and Sunday. Artists may work only during that schedule. Once the event has officially concluded, participants must stop work.
  16. The work of art must be produced between 14:00 hours of September 2, 1998 and 12:00 hours of September 12, 1998.
  17. The participant's work must be formally submitted to a representative of the Festival on September 12, 1998 at 12:00 hours.
  18. The organization reserves the right to disqualify works that are considered unfinished, in which case the work will not be purchased.
  19. Prizes and honorable mentions will be awarded during the closing ceremony to be held at 20:00 hours on September 12, 1998.
  20. If a participant completes his / her work before the end of the event he / she is required to remain on the symposium grounds until the last day and participate in the awards ceremony.
  21. Participants are required to take part in all of the activities undertaken by the organization.
  22. The organization reserves all the film, video and photographic rights of the Festival.
  23. In the event that a participant fails to abide by the symposium's regulations, the organization reserves the right to disqualify him / her.
  24. The organization retains every right to resolve any unexpected situations which may arise.
  25. The Festival will not be responsible for any accidents which may occur. Also it will not be held accountable for the loss of personal or any other type of objects during the realization of the event.
  26. participants must be aware of the health and security measures to be implemented during the symposium and must agree to abide by the these in order to minimize possibilities of accidents or health hazards. (Use of security glasses, goggles and breathing protectors is highly recommended).
  27. Participants must submit at least two personal recommendations with addresses and telephone numbers.
  28. The participant's signature on the entry form constitutes the acceptance of all the symposium's rules regulations and conditions.
